Auditors described 22 cases of misappropriation, loss due to wilful malpractice by public functionaries including embezzlement and revenue collected but not deposited, amounting to Nu 2.67 million, in the annual audit report for 2000.The ministry of home affairs had 17 cases involving Nu 2.11 million. The report stated that the form of misappropriation was mainly the non-accountal of revenue collected or what was accounted was not deposited into the government revenue account in time.

The 32-kV sub-station at Kanglung, Trashigang, which was commissioned this week will supply electricity to places as far as Trashiyangtse, according to power officials.One of the biggest in the east, the sub-station steps down the 132-kilo Volt Kurichu power to 33 kilo Volts and 11 kilo Volts respectively.

The residents of Yangtse are finally receiving the green signal from the dzongkhag authorities to start constructing houses.Two years after the Council of Ministers approved the development of a planned town in Trashiyangtse, about 10 acres of land has been demarcated for the new town. The new town will include a government housing colony and a residential and a commercial area. Some 26 houses are to be built in the first phase.
