Lingmukha-Toedwang and Kabisa-Talo constituencies in Punakha went for People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) yesterday.

Of 6,934 registered voters in Lingmukha-Toedwang constituency, more than 5,120 people cast their votes.

DNT secured 1,985 votes, followed by Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) with 1,337 votes.

In the Kabisa-Talo, PDP secured 2,738 votes. With 2,284 votes, DNT got the second highest vote.

Although DNT secured the maximum postal ballots in the constituency, PDP secured larger number of votes from EVM a difference of about 500 votes.

Kabisa-Talo constituency had over 10,000 registered voters.

While the two constituencies chose two different parties in Punakha, the provisional results show that DNT secured the maximum votes in the dzongkhag. DNT secured 4,269 votes in all. PDP got 3,934.

Of  the 16,949 registered voters in Punakha, 11,977 cast their votes. The voter turnout was 70.6 percent.

Bidha, 78, had come to vote with her 75-year-old brother from Logodama village. She said: “His Majesty has given us this responsibility to cast our votes. Although I have difficulty walking, I make sure that I vote.”
