Natural Resource Development Corporation Ltd will begin extracting sand from Sunkosh to meet the growing demand for sand in the western and south-central region.

Having sought all clearances from the department of forests, NRDCL is waiting for the water level in Sunkosh to recede.

Mineral Resource Division’s general manager, Deo Kumar Biswa, said that sand from the river would be available possibly by the end of September or beginning of October.

The extraction location has been identified at Phapar Kheti in Drujeygang gewog, Dagana. A 3.2km approach road has been construction to the extraction site.

The extraction from Sha region along the Punatsangchhu river has not been able to meet sand demand, Deo Kumar Biswa said.

NRDCL is also exploring potential sand extraction sites in Haa to meet the increasing demand for sand.
