Team Thunder FC won the first open veteran football tournament in Trashigang.

It played team Udzorong Central School in the finals at the Trashigang Middle Secondary School (TMSS) football ground yesterday.

Team Udzorong Central School lost by a goal, which was scored eight minutes into the game.

TMSS and Trashigang sports association organised the tournament.

Sixteen teams from the dzongkhag took part in the tournament.  Each team paid an entry fee of Nu15, 000.

According to an official, the tournament was organised to promote sports, bring residents together and keep the public engaged in sports.

Tournament coordinator, Kesang Wangchuk, who is the principal of TMSS, said they organised the tournament since there were not many activities for people to engage in.

The winners took home a cash prize of Nu 50,000 and the runners up, Nu 30,000. The tournament kicked off on May 18.
