Although not in the Plan, the 10.34km long Toktogom farm road in Chhukha will be constructed given the urgent need of the people.

Home minister Dawa Gyaltshen inaugurated the farm road’s construction last week.

According to a press release from Chhukha dzongkhag administration, the people of Toktogom have waited for many years for connectivity and better transportation. A total of 36 households of Bongo (Toktogom), Bjabcho in Chhukha and Getala chiwog, Dagala in Thimphu are expected to benefit from this farm road.

The press release states that the farm road will be funded with Nu 1 million from the government and Nu 0.5 million from Thimphu Dzongkhag. The farm road has the potential for eco-tourism and other agricultural activities like large-scale potato cultivation. The estimated cost for farm road’s construction is Nu 30 million.

Considering the lack of budget availability, Chhukha Hydro Power Project (CHPC)/ Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) has looked into the possibility to provide some financial support for the farm road’s construction, as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Home minister Dawa Gyaltshen urged the people of Toktogom and the farmers to assist the officials/workers to accelerate the road’s construction.
