Education: Tsirangtoe Lower Secondary School would be the next central school in Tsirang dzongkhag labour minister Ngeema Sangay Tshempo announced yesterday.

Member of Parliament Novin Darlami said Tsirangtoe lower secondary was once identified as a central school but given the scarcity of water, Damphu Higher Secondary School was decided to be the central school.

“The construction work was put to halt since October 23 following an executive order from the education ministry and it was almost decided to make Damphu Higher Secondary the central school,” he said.

He also added that people were not happy with the change in plans. “The people of Tsirangtoe have decided to help the school and gewog administrations to curb the water problem in the locality,” Novin Darlami said.

With Mendrelgang Middle Secondary School as the only central school in operation in Tsirang, the education ministry has now added Tsirangtoe Lower Secondary School to the list. The school will function as a central school from 2017.

Chief District Education Officer (DEO) Sangay Chophel said that in 11th Plan, Tsirangtoe Lower Secondary School was proposed to be upgraded to a middle secondary school.

“Four gewogs of Sergithang, Phuentenchu, Tsirangtoe and Semjong gewogs would benefit with the central school,” he said.

Tsirangtoe Lower Secondary School has 420 students of which 120 are provided boarding facilities. School principal Yeshey Jamtsho said the announcement is good news for the parents and students.

“The central school can really benefit the children of poor families,” he said.

Yeshey Jamtsho said the construction, which started few months ago focused on the construction of temporary classrooms and hostels as the old structures would be dismantled during the winter break. The budget for the school’s construction is Nu 192M.
