The Dzongkhag Sports Association (DSA) Paro defeated the defending champion DSA Tsirang yesterday in the second national volleyball league cum knockout championship held at Changlimithang, Thimphu.

DSA Paro dominated the match. The team outclassed the defending champion with maximum spikes and touch outs.

The three-day championship was organised by Bhutan Volley Federation in collaboration with Bhutan Olympic Committee with the objective to promote and revive the sport.

Of the fourteen registered Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC)-affiliated DSAs, 10 participated in the tournament. Samtse, Samdrupjongkhar, Paro, and Tsirang made to the semi-finals. Samtse and Samdrupjongkhar participated in the championship for the first time.

The tournament saw  the highest gathering of spectators.

DSA Paro was awarded the trophy along with cash prize of Nu 50,000. DSA Tsirang took home a trophy and Nu 30,000.

Nima Yoezer Chorten from Team DSA Paro was declared the most valuable player, and his teammate Choki Gyeltshen was declared the man of the match.

Nima Tshering from team DSA Samdrupjongkhar took home the best spiker prize. Dorji Wangchuck and Birkha from DSA Samtse received the best setter and blocker prizes respectively.

The best defence prize was given to a player from DSA Trashigang.

The federation and BOC will support the champions  to host the next championship tournament at their dzongkhag.
